Community Restitution

The Yuma County Adult Probation Community Service (Community Restoration) Program is one of the most valuable services offered to the Yuma Area.  The program uses the labor of Yuma County's convicted offenders (over 95% felons) placed on probation through the Superior Court of Yuma County as a condition of probation.  The department averages over 10,000 hours per month for numerous community service activities ranging from highly skilled labor to general help with civic activities.
One of the program's highlights is the good neighbor program.  This program was strategically put together to help non-profit organizations and the community by providing the highest quality of service to those who are in need due to age, physical handicap or a catastrophic event in the family.  Our program focuses on yard work, landscaping, and outdoor clean-up projects.  Adult Probation received many referrals of home-bound adults who are physically and financially unable to care for their homes. The program averages about ten referrals per month from numerous agencies including  Catholic Community Services and other non-profit organizations. This program truly gives the offender an opportunity to give something back to the community and initiate positive changes in their lives. The response from the community has been very positive to date. Another program highlight is the Graffiti Abatement program.  This program consists of offenders cleaning up the various types of graffiti left on our neighborhoods and schools. Most of the cleaning supplies have been supplied by local area merchants, and the labor is provided by probationers. Other highlights include assisting the City of Somerton with building a soccer field, Adopt-a-Street program, highway cleanup, school playground repair, lawn maintenance at various government facilities, senior nutrition program, Sheriff's Posse, etc.
