Indirect Services

        The Indirect Services Unit consists of three officers.  One for unsupervised probation, and two dedicated to Interstate and Intrastate transfer cases.  Those probationers assigned to Indirect Services who are receiving active supervision live in other states or in other Arizona counties.  A handful live in Mexico due most often to deportation.  Those living in other states or Arizona counties are under the direct supervision of the probation agencies within those jurisdictions.  The majority of these cases comprises probationers who reside out-of-state and for whom supervision is provided through the Interstate Compact Probation Program, which has been enacted by all fifty states to allow them to continue control and rehabilitation of offenders.  The Compact has strict guidelines for eligibility for transfer of supervision and very specific rules regarding the supervision to be provided by the receiving states.  This process is administered by  Indirect Services officers for their assigned probationers.  It involves investigation of proposed living and working arrangements in the other state, processing applications for supervision in that state, and actively tracking the progress of probationers while being supervised by the other state.  Probationers are required to adhere to the conditions imposed by the Yuma County Superior Court.  Violations of any of these conditions, or of others imposed by the receiving state, subject the probationer to involuntary return to Yuma County.
