Pretrial Services

Pretrial officers interview defendants who have been arrested in Yuma County.  On a daily basis they verify the person’s community ties, contact victims and develop criminal history information.  Once this is completed, they prepare conditions of release reports for the court.  Recommendations include release on their own recognizance or with a responsible third party, pretrial supervision, and/or  release on bond.  If placed under pretrial supervision, defendants are monitored for drug and alcohol use and are referred to counseling.  If they are unemployed, they are directed to attend job search classes.  Defendants’ noncompliant behavior is reported through status reports and affidavits to the county attorney and the defense counsel. Officers also participate in probation searches and testify in court when defendants fail to comply with their conditions of release.
