Interns/Volunteers
In conjunction and collaboration with Northern Arizona University-Yuma and Arizona Western College, the Yuma County Adult Probation Department allows seniors to participate in an active internship within the department. Most of the students are near completion of their four year degree in Criminal Justice or other Social Service degrees. Students can earn between 3-12 credit hours while working 8-40 hours at the Yuma County Adult Probation Department. The program is designed to give students the opportunity to work directly with employees of the department. Student interns will be utilized to promote their education in the criminal justice field and aid probation/surveillance officers in the performance of their duties. Any student interested in the intern program must contact their academic advisor who will screen the applicant by university standards. The student will then be referred to the Yuma County Adult Probation Department for screening. The student must submit to a background check and complete screening paperwork.
Requirement
a. Be at least 20 years old.
b. Be a licensed and insured driver.
c. Complete all screening application forms and submit for a security check.
d. Be registered at an accredited college/university and referred by their respective academic advisor.
Volunteers
The department also allows graduated students or individuals in the community who wish to help the department and learn more about the functions that Adult Probation is responsible for. This program is designed to meet the needs of many individuals. Some volunteers just want to donate their time to assist the department. Many prospective job applicants also become involved with the program in order to help them understand the functions of the department and to better determine if a career in probation is for them. The requirements are the same as an intern with the exception that you do not need to be a student.
